Green Light for Town Centre Restaurant & Retail Space
Planning permission has been granted for Flitwick Town Council’s (FTC) flagship project to transform 3 Station Road (former Barclays Bank building) into a two-storey casual dining restaurant and a retail space.
The Council will be appointing a contractor for the building work at the Town Council meeting on 17th December. Construction work is due to start on site in January.
In the new year, FTC will be working with agents to market the commercial opportunity to potential restaurant and retail tenants.
A core aim of the project is to see the return of a post office counter in the town, and although this is not guaranteed, the Council has been working with Post Office Ltd to ensure that the retail space would meet the requirements of any businesses operating a post office.
“We are delighted that now planning permission has been granted we can really move ahead with our plans to create a new focal point in the town centre with a new restaurant and a retail space,” said Cllr John Roberts, Town Mayor.
“This exciting project will be a real boost to Flitwick and enhance the dining options available for both residents and visitors to the town.”
FTC purchased the building in November 2021 with the long-term vision to develop a new focal point in the town centre. As the landlord of the building, FTC will be leasing the space to commercial tenants.
This project would not have been possible without grant funding from the UK Government from the Community Ownership Fund and UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
