BUILDING WORK TO START ON TOWN CENTRE FLAGSHIP PROJECT
An exciting new chapter in the re-development of 3 Station Road (former Barclays Bank building) begins next month.
Building work will start on 3rd February to transform the building into a two-storey casual dining restaurant and a retail space.
Luton-based Marlow Builders were appointed contractors for the project at the December Town Council meeting following a full tender process.
Over 13 weeks, the interior of the building will be refurbished into two units; a retail unit and a separate restaurant space. Apart from the new roof installed in November 2024, this will be the first visual change to the building, with exterior work taking place, including new windows, entry ramps, and steps.
Flitwick Town Council (FTC) is working with a commercial agent to market the opportunity to potential restaurant and retail tenants. It is an aspiration that the retail space will incorporate a post office counter, a facility that was last offered in the town in 2022.
“This is a really exciting time for the project as we will start to see the building take shape with this new programme of work,” said Cllr John Roberts, Town Mayor.
“A new restaurant and retail outlet in the Town Square will be a welcome addition to Flitwick and provide a great new attraction for people to visit the centre of town.”
FTC purchased the building in November 2021 with planning permission for the development given in December 2024. As the landlord of the building, FTC will be leasing the space to commercial tenants.
The Town Council will issue further updates on the project as the refurbishment programme continues.
