ADDITIONAL £91k FUNDING BOOST FOR REDEVELOPING FORMER BANK BUILDING
The project to transform 3 Station Road (former Barclays Bank building) into a two-story restaurant and adjacent retail unit has received a second funding boost, this time from the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund programme.
The Town Council has received £91,000 from Defra’s Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF). This government funding is being administered as part of Central Bedfordshire Councils (CBC) (UK Shared Prosperity Fund programme.

The news follows last month’s announcement that Flitwick Town Council (FTC) had been awarded a £293,000 grant following a successful application to the UK Government’s Community Ownership Fund.

“We are delighted to have been granted additional funding from the DEFRA Rural England Prosperity Fund towards the project and thank Central Bedfordshire Council for its support securing the grant,” said Town Mayor, Cllr Andy Snape. “Once completed, this development will be a fantastic centrepiece for the town centre.”

Work is now underway on detailed designs and planning for the project which is being managed by Luton Borough Council’s Design & Delivery Service.  The Council expects to submit a formal planning application in the next couple of months.

Flitwick Town Council’s vision for the building includes a casual dining restaurant and retail unit, and enhanced outdoor area in the Town Square.  The Council plans to work with Post Office Ltd, to explore how best to restore a post office counter to the town as part of this project.
