Roof Works Signal First Step in Transformation of Town Centre Building
Work is scheduled to start next week on replacing the roof of 3 Station Road as phase one of the construction work for Flitwick Town Council’s (FTC) flagship project begins.
FTC formally submitted a planning application in July to transform 3 Station Road, the former Barclays Bank building, into a two-storey casual dining restaurant and a retail space. A core aim of the project is to see the return of a post office counter to the town as part of the retail offering.
The roof works are being funded by the UK Government’s Community Ownership Fund, with work commencing now to comply with the grant funding requirements.
Original surveys completed when the Town Council purchased the site in November 2021 showed the roof required replacement. The building has suffered from water ingress and these works will make the building watertight and drastically improve energy efficiency.
Following a full tender process, the Council is delighted to announce that the roof works contract has been awarded to Flitwick-based Accurate Flat Roofing.
“Town Mayor, Councillor John Roberts said: “This essential work is the first step in FTC’s planned transformation of the building, and we are really pleased that government funding has been awarded to complete the roof replacement.
“We are also delighted to be supporting a local business, Accurate Flat Roofing, who successfully won the tender to deliver the project.”
The work is expected to take six weeks to complete.
The UK Community Ownership Fund is a £150 million fund over 4 years to support community groups, including parish, town and community councils, across the UK to take ownership of assets which are at risk of being lost to the community.
